Scratches are the least of your worries. For the ShiftCam engines, it's important to remember that the design of the ShiftCam valve train is highly complex, making it worthwhile to proactively protect the cylinder head. As the exposed valve covers are only mounted by friction, there’s a risk they may shift relative to the cylinder head during any impact, potentially affecting the delicate valve train.
